Gill's Expositions, first edition

Newly catalogued (elephant not included!):

[469001] Gill, John. An Exposition: Set of 9 Volumes.

London: John Gill, 1746. First Edition. Leather. Average .

15½ x 10 inches; these appear to be the first editions of the various volumes, published by Gill himself between 1746 and 1765. Leather bindings somewhat scraped; spines repaired by glueing blue cloth over spines (we do not know the state of what leather remains underneath on the spines) and onto boards (there are leather spine labels - perhaps not original - on most but not all volumes); a number of endpapers show powdery dampstaining which in a few cases has caused a little staining to the adjacent pages; there is a variable amount of foxing; a number of volumes have some water staining (discoloration) to several pages together in unpredictable places within the volume (did the printers' warehouse roof leak, or what?)

Vol 1: Genesis to Numbers: 1763: 1 inch brown stain to a couple of sheets; a couple of pages just starting to loosen at front.

Vol 2: Deuteronomy to 2 Kings: 1764: a couple of pages loosened at front.

Vol 3: Chronicles to Psalm 72: 1765: a few pages in Job misnumbered by printer but content and order appears correct.

Vol 4: Psalm 73 to Song of Solomon: 1765.

Vol 5 (1 of Prophets): Isaiah to Lamentations: 1757.

Vol 6 (2 of Prophets): Ezekiel to Malachi: 1758.

Vol 7 (1 of NT): Matthew to John 8: 1746: last few pages loosened/tatty (text complete).

Vol 8 (2 of NT): John 9 to Galatians 2: 1747.

Vol 9 (3 of NT): Galatians 2 to Revelation: 1748
